“I love moving!” said nobody ever.

Ashelyn’s eighteen month-day was also our moving day. A blur, if you ask me, mostly because having a toddler underfoot disrupts the packing process something serious. I was still hurriedly boxing up odds and ends while the (wonderful!) guys were loading the U-Haul. On occasions like this organization is my bedrock; this time I felt unmoored.

Anyhow, we survived! Even though Kevin leans toward hoarding and I toward purging.

His brain: Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, right?

My brain: Argh too much stuff BURN IT ALL!

Of all things, I’d been worried about sorting out the chaos afterward. I’m one of those people who can’t relax until a proper place is found for everything, who unpacks luggage immediately after a trip. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to tackle the job properly with the aforementioned toddler underfoot. The one who insists on “helping.” But grace smiled upon us and somehow we were unpacked and settled in by the end of the week.

Can you spot the busy toddler?

I thought it’d be months before I could breathe easy, so. Phew!

S: Did you hear what Kanye West and Kim Kardashian named their baby?

K: … who?

And that, my friends, is the right answer to the whole kerfuffle.

In the early afternoon.

S: I have a craving for Kraft Dinner.

In the evening.

K: Hey, there’s still some KD left in the pot. You didn’t finish it?

S: Yeah. I know. Kraft Dinner is like coke; it’s only good the first serving.

S: I missed a call from mom. Did you tell my parents about Ashelyn’s nine-month check-up this morning?

K: I told your dad I had to leave early to take Ashelyn to the doctor. Why?

S: I just called back. They thought she had to go to the hospital and were wondering what was wrong.

K: … that’s NOT what I said.

(Surprisingly – because we aren’t particularly tall people – Ashelyn is still in the upper upper percentiles for height. However, her weight has tapered off to about average.)

After a friendly debate over the right way to make kabocha soup …

S: “Anyway, do what you want. I’m going to shower.”

K: “But I can’t do anything if I have to watch Ashelyn!”

S: “WELCOME TO MY LIFE.”

K: “Jericho Beach is just off UBC, right?”

S: “I think so? But don’t quote me on that.”

K: “You went to UBC – how can you not know?”

S: “Well, I didn’t go to UBC and then HANG OUT ON THE BEACH.”
