After a friendly debate over the right way to make kabocha soup …

S: “Anyway, do what you want. I’m going to shower.”

K: “But I can’t do anything if I have to watch Ashelyn!”

S: “WELCOME TO MY LIFE.”

I’ve lost count of how many dozens of times this has been said to me, throughout pregnancy and after:

“It’s best to have a girl first, because she’ll help you take care of her younger siblings.”

… what, so a boy won’t?

W: “Do you sing Ashelyn lullabies?”
D: “No, she sings her, like, jazz and stuff.”

(True story. Because I have a bit of musical ADD. By the way, has it ever occured to anyone that “Rock-a-Bye Baby” is about a BABY FALLING OUT OF A TREE?)

K: “Jericho Beach is just off UBC, right?”

S: “I think so? But don’t quote me on that.”

K: “You went to UBC – how can you not know?”

S: “Well, I didn’t go to UBC and then HANG OUT ON THE BEACH.”

At 20 weeks, or 19 weeks adjusted!

It’s taken me this long to realize that bump photos taken soon after a meal look bigger. So the ones that seem extra round, more so than the week after, were probably inadvertent portraits of munchkin plus FOOD BABY.

Hey, who knew? I’m slow at noticing these things.

Based on the results of my first trimester ultrasound, munchkin’s due date has been pushed back a week – from March 30 to April 7.

Which isn’t totally unexpected. Our original dating was based on my LMP, but my cycle is significantly longer than average. (At 45 days I couldn’t be sure that I was pregnant.)

Kevin hopes this means we’re less likely to have an April Fool’s baby.

Ever since watching Tangled last December, I’ve had a bit of a crush on Flynn Rider. Whenever this comes up in conversation, Kevin reminds me that his real name is Eugene.

After much deliberation, we’ve decided to tell people that we’re naming the baby Eugene. It’s perfect. Eugene Hu. Eu, for short. So … Eu Hu. Pronounced YOOHOO.

Thanks for asking!
